The  NA tire industry is waiting for the labeling and consumer information portions of the tire fuel efficiency rule. The rules and labels  have already been decided for Europe and Japan.

The final rule on tire fuel efficiency, mandated by the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 (EISA), was issued in March 2010, requiring consumer grades for rolling resistance, traction and treadwear.

Our paper will demonstrate by the proper selection of process oil,  to optimimize the  levels of the  three parameters of roling resistance, traction, and treadwear, although diametrical opposite, can be achieved.

The paper will briefly touch on regulatory history; tire performance labelling in place, forecasted labelling for NA;  present tire preformance , and the effect of  oil aromaticity to meet fuel efficiency standards.
