Millathane® HS11, a New Millable Polyurethane Rubber

Polyurethanes are known for their excellent abrasion resistance, although they also have excellent oil resistance and high strength properties. There are two main types of polyurethanes, polyester urethanes and polyether urethanes. Polyester urethanes have better oil, solvent and heat resistance than polyether types, but suffer the problem of being prone to hydrolysis. Polyether types are much better for water and hydrolysis resistance, but are not as good for oil, solvent and heat resistance. Millathane HS11 is new type of millable polyurethane that combines the oil and heat resistance of polyester urethanes with the water and hydrolysis resistance of polyether urethanes. This new millable urethane polymer will be described and compared to polyether and polyester polyurethanes.
