86 An Advanced Alternative to Ethylene Acrylic (AEM) Elastomers for High-Temperature, Oil Resistant Hoses

Zeon Chemicals’ new HyTemp AR212XP high-temperature polyacrylate (HT-ACM) offers a higher level of heat and fluid resistance compared to high-temperature ethylene acrylic (HT-AEM) elastomers.  HT-ACM elastomers can perform in a broad range of temperature extremes while resisting some of the most aggressive fluids.  Beyond this, HyTemp AR212XP was designed for extrusion processing and provides a 50% increase in extrusion rate compared with traditional ACM elastomers.  This advantage, coupled with higher tear resistance and improved surface finish, paves the way for enhanced hose performance in today’s most demanding environments.

Selecting the right polymer for a particular component is the most important step to developing a successful application.  Acrylic elastomers are commonly used for automotive turbo engine hoses (TDi or CAC).  This paper will compare, in great detail, the characteristics of both HT-ACM and HT-AEM materials and will also demonstrate the performance enhancements achievable by the use of HyTemp AR212XP in these applications.  HyTemp AR212XP was specifically designed for hose applications requiring the conveying of extremely hot air, saturated with petroleum-based oils and fuels and provides OEMs with improved dynamic performance in the end use application.
