Biographical Sketch: My name is W. Michael York. I received a BS, MS in Chemistry and a Ph.D in Computational Chemistry from the University of North Carolina Charlotte (UNCC). My career in the tire industry began in 1981 when I was hired by General Tire, now Continental Tire NA Inc. I retired from Continental after 27.5 years. During my employment, I worked in the Charlotte Plant for 15 years before transferring into R&D for 12.5 years. My research included designing silanes for silica-filled tires, accelerator reaction mechanisms, and understanding how these materials affect cure and network chemistry in rubber. For the past 5 years I have been the Global Program Manager for Silanes in Tire and Rubber at Momentive Performance Materials in Tarrytown, NY.
