A new parameter has been developed to quantify the affinity of carbon black with various elastomers.  By varying carbon black loading and grade in various elastomers, changes in filler-polymer interaction (as measured by the slope of bound rubber as a function of loading) have been determined.  The parameter can be a valuable tool in smart compound development.
