The use of highly dispersible silica (HDS) in green tire treads is continuously increasing worldwide. At the same time, tire makers are expressing the need to improve the processing of compounding with silica. Of course, improving tire performance remains a must. Solvay is launching a breakthrough HDS that offer benefits in both processing and performance : Solvay Efficium.

To go a step further, the understanding of the silane reactivity and the vulcanization behavior with this new benchmark is studied to manage the balance between processing, reinforcement and hysteresis.

In this presentation, several ways to characterize the silica interface and its impact on the compounds properties will be illustrated in functional sSBR recipes using design of experiments.
