Itaconic acid is a promising organic acid to prepare renewable polymers since it could be produced by fermentation in large scale. A novel cross-linkable, high molecular weight poly(di-isoamyl itaconate-co-isoprene) (PDII) elastomer was prepared by emulsion polymerization based on itaconic acid resource. PDII with a number-average molecular weight of 352 000 and a glass transition temperature -39.5oC was obtained when the mass ratio of di-isoamyl itaconate to isoprene was 80/20. The properties of PDII elastomers with different isoprene contents were investigated. Besides, natural filler silica and silicates were filled into PDII matrix to strengthen the mechanical properties and air impermeabilities.
