Biographical Sketch: Born in Rockford Illinois. Earned BS in mechanical engineering at the University of Massachusett at Amherst (1982); SM (1986) and ScD (1992) in Materials Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Postdoctoral work at the National Institute of Standards and Technology; moved to the Naval Research Laboratory in 1994. Technical leader on surface ship sonar domes: primary concerns are reliability, acoustic mechanical properties, and anti-fouling performance. Married, three children.
