Biographical Sketch: Gary R. Hamed is Professor of Polymer Science at The University of Akron. He received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in chemical engineering from Cornell University in 1972 and 1973, respectively, and his Ph.D. degree from The University of Akron in 1978 under the direction of Alan N. Gent. He is recipient of the 1987 Outstanding Researcher of the Year from The University of Akron, the Sparks-Thomas Award from ACS Rubber Division, the 1999 Adhesion Society Award for Excellence in Adhesion Science, the 2000 Robert L. Patrick Fellowship from Adhesion Society, and the 2001 George Stafford Whitby Award for Distinguished Teaching and Academic Research from Rubber Division, American Chemical Society. He has contributed to over 80 research publications and holds several patents in the adhesion and elastomer areas. His research interests include rheology of adhesion, autohesion and tack, brass-rubber adhesion, fracture of rubber, anisotropic rubber, and rubber reinforcement.
