Gold Iridescence in Automotive Weatherseals - Cause and Remedies

Automotive weatherseals are made from ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer (EPDM).  When exposed to sunlight, a subtle discoloration of the surface develops.  Although the color does not affect the part’s properties or function, a remedy has long been sought.  This talk presents experimental work to identify the source of the color and examines methods to mitigate color development.
