Biographical Sketch:
Dr. Joe Padovan, Emeritus Distinguished Professor of Mechanical and Polymer Engineering at The University of Akron and a former Goodyear R&D Fellow, has broad-based experience in modeling tire physics problems. Over a career spanning several decades, his experience includes multiple grants, contracts, and consultancies from government and industry including aerospace, automotive, tire polymer/metals industries, NASA Glenn-Lewis, NASA Langley, the Navy, NSF, and the Air force among many. His main areas of emphasis in tires has been in developing advanced simulation methods (FEA), along with the assessment of material properties—mechanical response, fatigue, local morphology, and wear. This work has resulted in some 200+ journal papers, 150+ conference papers, numerous government and corporate reports, as well as several pending patents. In his role as an educator, he has advised 50+ Ph.D. and 40+ M.S. students. Many of these former students now serve in a variety of tire corporations and related supporting industries.
