  • Rubber-based products from tires to power transmission belts to gas meter diaphragms are all based on composites of polymers based on specific performance characterisitics, which are reinforced with elements required to support the product in the execution of task required. The capability of these rubber products has evolved based on both the polymer and the reinforcing element. The reinforcing elements  have evolved parallel to the polymers used. This presentation will focus on yarn-based reinforcements available in the past with their strengths and limitations, the evolution to what is currently being used in a wide range of applications, and a look to the future of what might be possible based on new products and their performance requirements.
