Dr Lian Hutchings Durham University Department of Chemistry South Road Durham United Kingdom DH1 3LE Email: l.r.hutchings@durham.ac.uk Biographical Sketch: Dr Lian Hutchings joined the Department of Chemistry at Durham University in 1993 as a post doc before securing a permanent faculty position in 1999. His research interests lie in the field of synthetic polymer chemistry and specifically the synthesis of polymers which are well controlled in terms of molecular weight, composition, functionality and chain architecture. His research group exploit a variety of living/controlled polymerization mechanisms to achive that aim including living anionic polymerization, ATRP and RAFT. Specific areas of expertise include; i) the synthesis of complex branched architectures - DendriMacs, HyperMacs, Hyperblocks ii) multi end-functionalized polymer additives designed to modify polymer surface and interfacial properties and iii) the synthesis of copolymers with controlled monomer sequence distribution. As well as his academic role in Durham he is also Deputy Director of the Durham Centre for Soft Matter, Durham Director of the Polymer IRC and Treasurer of the Macro Group UK |
