Biographical Sketch:
Athanasios Touris was born in Greece. He graduated from the University of Athens, Greece, in 2004, attaining his bachelor in Chemistry. He obtained his master degree in Polymer Chemistry at the University of Athens, Greece, in 2007 under the supervision of Professors Nikos Hadjichristidis and Marinos Pitsikalis, working on the synthesis and characterization of complex macromolecular architectures based on the Titanium (IV) mediated coordination polymerization of n-hexyl-isocyanate. In 2010 he obtained his Ph.D. in Polymer Chemistry at the University of Athens, Greece, under the supervision of Professor Nikos Hadjichristidis. His project investigated the synthesis of novel acetylene-functionalized organolithium compounds and involved the successful use of the latter as anionic initiators for the synthesis of well-defined macromolecular architectures combing anionic polymerization and “click” chemistry. Currently, he is conducting post-doctoral research at the University of Minnesota, co-advised by Professors Frank Bates and Marc Hillmyer.
