Pattern noise is mainly caused by tire blocks impacting road. Therefore, we can predict pattern noise by using the process of impact mechanism.

Traditional prediction of pattern noise simulation is carried out by scanning tread pattern surface.  This method is helpful in tread pattern design modification of varying pitch sequence and/or individually shifting tread ribs for noise treatment.  This approach comes short to represent real phenomenon of noise generation.  In addition, the traditional approach is useful in frequency domain but limited in time domain.

In this paper, we studied pattern noise simulation by using the convolution method which modeled tread block impact with impulse response function.
As a result, good correlation between test result and simulation was achieved.
