Biographical Sketch:
James E. (Jim) McIntyre joined Smithers Scientific Services in 1988 as a student intern. He received a BSEE from the University of Texas at Austin in 1989 and completed additional studies in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Akron. He has worked in footprint mechanics, force and moment, tire modeling, tire-pavement interaction, wet and winter traction, vehicle dynamics, and test instrumentation. He holds a patent for an outdoor tire force and moment measurement system. He has been active in the development of numerous standards over the years, including ASTM F1805. Jim is the Recording Secretary of the SAE Vehicle Dynamics Standards Committee and is a former chairman of ASTM subcommittee F09.20 on Vehicular Testing. In 1998, Jim and his mentor, Dr. Marion Pottinger, received the Tire Society’s Superior Paper Award for their paper on the Virtual Wear concept. Jim and his wife, Barbara, live in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.
