The purpose of this study is to better understand the effect of mix method on abrasion resistance. We varied the mix method, including time and temperature. The scope included two filler types (carbon black and Agilon™). Natural rubber compounds were mixed with varying temperature and time. We compared low temperature mill mix to high temperature Banbury mix. The mix methods were evaluated for natural rubber compounds which varied in filler type. In particular, the effect of filler-polymer interaction on abrasion was examined. The strength of the polymer-filler interaction was measured by microscopy. The abrasion resistance was measured with an angle abrader.
