The use of high temperature conductors (ACSS, ACCR, and ACCC) is becoming increasing common throughout the electric power industry to upgrade existing transmission line and build higher capacity new lines. It requires hardware’s (suspension, spacer, spacer damper, etc.) which work with the high temperature conductors have ability to withstand the high temperature up to 250°C (482°F).

A High-Temperature Twin Spacer with two elastomer cushions has been designed to meet a 200°C (392°F) high temperature application. The cushions (made of elastomer) need to meet many requirements in order to be used as functional inserts. In this paper, the requirements of the elastomer/cushions/twin spacer are outlined and discussed, which include elastomer characterize requirements for the elastomer material and also performance requirements for the cushion/twin spacer in mechanical, electrical, environmental. Some test results will be presented for future NEW high temperature material development reference.
