Biographical Sketch: Dr. Beshah Ayalew is an associate professor of Automotive Engineering and co-director of the DOE GATE Center of Excellence in Sustainable Vehicle Systems at the Clemson University-International Center for Automotive Research (CU-ICAR). He received his MS (2000) and Ph.D. (2005) degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Penn State University. His interest and expertise is in control systems and dynamics with applications in vehicle dynamics, manufacturing processes and energy systems. Dr. Ayalew received SAE's Ralph R. Teetor Educational Award (2014), the Clemson University Board of Trustees Award for Faculty Excellence (2012), and the NSF CAREER Award for his work in mobile control of distributed parameter systems (2011). He was a recipient of the Penn State Alumni Association Dissertation Award (2005). He is an active member of ASME’s Vehicle Design Committee, IEEE’s Control Systems Society, and SAE.
