Biographical Sketch: Dr. Votruba-Drzal is a senior research associate within the silica R&D group at PPG Industries, Inc. He is currently the principal investigator in a Department of Energy federal grant to develop higher fuel efficiency tires based on PPG silica technology. He has 16 years of prior experience in academia, government, industry, and consulting. In previous work at PPG industries, he was responsible for technical contributions, solicitations, and management of commercial and federally supported research in coatings and anti-terrorism/force protection. This included the design and testing of transparent and opaque armor, blast and ballistic mitigation of buildings and vehicles with specialized glass, polymers, and composites. Dr. Votruba-Drzal holds a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering.
