Less Is More, Also in Steel Cord

As world's largest independent manufacturer of drawn steel wire products, Bekaert gives an update of its steel cord developments for future tire reinforcement.

Bekaert is working on higher strength steel and advanced cord constructions, that allow the use of less steel and skim compound, which leads to tire weight reduction, lower rolling resistance and less CO₂ emission.

Bekaert has also developed a new coating, that allows cobalt salts to be removed from tires, making tires more durable and eco-friendly, with adhesion performance equal to better than with current compounds and normal brass coated steel cord.
