Biographical Sketch:
Dr. Balaka Barkakaty is a postdoc in Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, University of Akron. Dr. Barkakaty received her Ph.D from Okayama University, Japan (2006). Her doctoral studies was on the development of synthetic methodologies for the utilization of “CFCl3” for organic syntheses. Dr. Barkakaty also worked as a postdoc with Japan Synthetic Rubber Corporation (JSR), Japan (2006-2010).During her association with JSR, she developed novel monomers / polymers for 193 nm based photoresist applications and jointly filed 6 patents with Japanese Patent Office. Recently, her idea of a new room temperature bicarbonate conducting fuel cell has won the 2011 Launch Town Entrepreneurship Award in Ohio and was also declared as one of the finalist in Ohio State University’s New 10X Tech Accelerator for Aspiring Tech Entrepreneurs 2011. Dr. Barkakaty’s current research interest includes design, synthesis and fabrication of new biomaterials.
