Petersen graduated from Norwich University as a member of the Corps of Cadets with a B.S. in mechanical engineering. He has over thirty-three years of experience in tire testing, working for Armstrong Rubber Company and Pirelli Tire, and now at Consumers Union, publisher of Consumer Reports for that last sixteen years. Gene works out of the Auto Test Center Division in East Haddam Connecticut. His current position is Tire Program Leader, where he is directly responsible for tire testing. He is also one of the engineers evaluating new cars and trucks, and oversees the stopping performance of these vehicles. He is a member of SAE and a working member on the SAE Highway Tire Committee.
