Dr. Rainer Friehmelt Orion Engineered Carbons GmbH Applied Technology Tire & MRG Harry-Kloepfer-Str. 1 Köln Germany 50997 Email: rainer.friehmelt@orioncarbons.com Biographical Sketch: Since December 2009 Dr. Rainer Friehmelt has been responsible for the product development of carbon black for rubber applications within the Applied Technology Tire & MRG of Orion Engineered Carbons. He graduated as a chemical engineer from the University of Karlsruhe (KIT) in 1994, with a Diploma thesis in particle technology. In 1999 he received his PhD in aerosol particle characterization from the University of Kaiserslautern. After joining Degussa in January 2000 Rainer Friehmelt worked in the group for Particle Technology of the department for Process Technology in Hanau-Wolfgang, where he gained diverse experiences in the field of production and applications of fumed silica. In December 2004 he joined the Applied Technology for Rubber Applications of Evonik in Cologne. He held different positions in product development of both precipitated and fumed silica and functional silanes for rubber applications.
