Biographical Sketch:
Willie was born in Hong Kong and attended colleges in the United States. He received his PhD degree in Physical Organic Chemistry from Indiana University in 1982. Willie began his career at Rohm and Haas Company in 1984. Upon the merger with The Dow Chemical Company, Willie was appointed a Fellow in the Dow Construction Chemicals business unit within The Dow Advanced Materials Division. Willie’s main research interests have been in the design of novel polymer and material through synthetic methods and fundamental understanding of polymer systems including controlled radical polymerization, emulsion polymerization, polymerization kinetics, controlled structure polymers synthesis and applications, structure property relationship and latex film formation. Willie has co-authored over 40 publications and holds over 40 patents in many areas in polymer related technologies. More recently, he was selected to deliver the 2010 Mattiello Memorial Lecture at the American Coatings Conference in Charlotte in May, 2010.
