Choosing the Right Peroxide for Today's High Performance Applications

The continued push by automotive and industrial OEM manufacturers for higher temperature and longer lasting performance of elastomeric applications has made the use of peroxide cure systems more prevalent than ever before. Since so many different peroxides are available to today’s compounder, a review is necessary of each type, its benefits, drawbacks, and applications. This paper will highlight the major peroxides available to today’s compounder and determine the applications of each type. This paper will also detail the hazards of using peroxides and show how the use of dispersions can significantly reduce these hazards; making peroxides dispersions a cost effective and safe alternative to liquid or powdered peroxides for high performance applications.
