A brief review of current intensive internal batch mixer technology is made with the emphasis on selection of features from a product and process standpoint.   Issues related to equipment selection and specification, the determination of suitable material feeding, post-mixer processing, cooling, and forming of compound for subsequent processing operations are described.  Installation considerations are considered from a material flow, maintenance, and operating efficiency perspectives.
