CANCELLED: Effect of Buckminsterfullerenes as a Filler On High Temperature Properties of FKM

Wednesday, October 13, 2010
Kylie Speirs, UMass Lowell, Lowell, MA and Joey L. Mead, Plastics Engineering, Center for High-rate Nanomanufacturing, Lowell, MA
Fluoroelastomers have excellent mechanical properties at high temperatures.  These properties can be further improved by replacing a portion of carbon black with buckminsterfullerenes.  Fluorocarbon (FKM) rubber was compounded with carbon black and buckminsterfullerenes; the resulting compounds were analyzed for the effect of temperature on physical properties. The parameters studied were: tensile properties, compression set, and fatigue resistance.
