THERBAN® hydrogenated nitrile rubber (HNBR) is a specialty elastomer used in demanding engineering applications such as the automotive, heavy duty, and oil well markets. It has an excellent combination of heat, oil and abrasion resistance in addition to high mechanical strength, very good dynamic and compression set properties. This paper will present the properties and processing characteristics of a novel grade of Ultra Low Viscosity HNBR.  This material has a viscosity range between 100 and 1000 Pascal seconds at conventional processing temperatures enabling it to be used for liquid injection molding (LIM) applications as well as the production of in place gaskets (IPG) without the need for plasticizers.
