Biographical Sketch:
The author has studied chemistry and biochemistry at the University of Groningen, The Netherlands, and obtained a PhD at the same university based on studies on alkane degradation and biocatalysis by Pseudomonas bacteria. Subsequently, he moved to the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zürich, Switzerland, where he built up a group working on oxygenases as biocatalytic tools for chemical synthesis, and on bacterial polyesters. In 2006, he moved to the University of Lausanne, Switzerland, and worked as a scientific expert for the policy-oriented EU-project EPOBIO: Realising the economic potential of sustainable resources - Bioproducts from non-food crops. Since early 2008, he’s engaged in the EU-project EU-PEARLS: EU-based production and exploitation of alternative rubber and latex sources. His work has been published in over 60 peer-reviewed scientific papers, reviews and book-chapters.
