Biographical Sketch:
Yu Liu is a PhD candidate in Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering at University of Western Ontario. He received his B.Eng. in Control Science and Engineering from Harbin Institute of Technology in 2003, and his M. Eng in Mechanical Design from Kyungpook National University in 2005. His master study was sponsored by Korea Research Foundation Fellowship with research focus on precise multi-degree-of-freedom measurement system for miniaturized machine tool. He then worked as a measurement equipment engineer in Bosch Automotive Diesel Systems Co., Ltd, China for one year. Since September 2006, he started his PhD study in present university and joined in an industry rubber research project as sponsored by LANXESS Inc. His current research is on design, preparation and characterization of novel surface grafting on rubber: a green technology approach. He is designing a diversity of measurement methods to study the process. Major topics cover properties of rubber such as mechanical strength, friction and adhesion, contact mechanics, interface and colloid, and also vibration theory in rubber test.
