Presentation at the Fall 176th Technical Meeting
Plasticizers - How Oil molecules can influence the Tire Properties
Abstract
More or less all the tyre manufacturers all over the world are going to follow the new regulations concerning the ban of PCA containing plasticizers (Directive 2005/69/EC).
But due to the discussions around the global warming as well as the aspiration to have safer cars there is also the requirement to reduce the rolling resistance and to improve the wet braking properties of tires. Also in these both cases the palsticizers can play an important role.
The presentation shows the effect of different plasticizers on rolling resistance, braking distance (wet and dry), abrasion and ageing and tries to give anexplanation, how the different molecular structures or compositions of the used plasticizers correlate with all these effects.
AT least also the availability of the different types of plasticizers will be discussed.
