ABSTRACT: Liquid Nitrile Rubber(LNBR) and Liquid Hydroxy Nitrile Rubber(LNBR-OH) has lower viscosity and better processability. LNBR as plasticizer of HNBR can completely be compatible with HNBR. HNBR will obtain good property in oil resistence product when LNBR was used as plasticizer of HNBR. However, heat resistance, aging resistance and ozone resistance of HNBR will be affected because of unsaturated carbon bond in LNBR. In this paper, LNBR and LNBR-OH was hydrogenated in the presence of a bimetallic complex catalyst developed in this laboratory. The result shows that hydrogenation degree of LNBR was over 87%, however, hydrogenation degree of LNBR-OH was about 40%. The optimum hydrogenation condition with a 30% LNBR xylene solution is at mass fraction 0. 35% catalyst under 1.4MPa hydrogen pressure at 418 K for 6 h to obtain LHNBR with more than 87% hydrogenation degree. The plasticization of HNBR with liquid HNBR (LHNBR) was investigated and compared to that with liquid NBR (LNBR). The test results showed that the HNBR with LHNBR vulcanizate has higher tensile strength, elogation and better heat resistance when compared with LNBR. Therefore LHNBR is an excellent heat resistance and oil resistance plasticizer for HNBR.and oil resistance plasticizer for HNBR.
