ExxonMobil Chemical Company has a portfolio of polymer modifiers which includes a slate of specialty hydrocarbon fluids intended especially for the property modification of polyolefins.  These fluids, commercialized under the Elevast™ trade name, are unique and efficient plasticizers that have shown significant property enhancements in polyolefin plastics and elastomers, including polyethylene, polypropylene, PEX, EPM, EPDM and butyl rubber.  Compared to conventional mineral process oils, Elevast™ PM have demonstrated improvement in a variety of critical performance attributes, including crosslinking efficiency, high-temperature permanence, low-temperature flexibility, long-term property stability and ease of processing.  This presentation will provide evidence for the broad applicability of Elevast™ PM in a variety of elastomer applications, while focusing on their specific advantage in butyl rubber applications.  Examples of the property improvements that can be achieved in butyl rubber/natural rubber formulations will be discussed.
