Polyepichlorohydrin Elastomers for Bio-Diesel Applications

Samuel C. Harber , Zeon Chemicals L. P. , Louisville , KY
Environmental and economic concerns continue to alter the landscape of viable elastomeric solutions available for fuel service applications. A great deal of focus recently has been on biodiesel fuel mixtures and the search for robust yet economic solutions in servicing this market segment. Some traditional elastomers will fare much better than others in biodiesel service. One such example is the broad range of Hydrin®/ECO elastomers available from Zeon Chemicals L.P. A study is undertaken which demonstrates the serviceability provided by each class of polyepichlorohydrin elastomer in typical and severe biodiesel test environments. Test media used in this study include blended and neat fluids found both in North American and European markets.
