The addition or partial substitution of microcrystalline talc for carbon black in thermoset rubber results in significant improvements in processing such as mold flow and in mechanical properties such as elongation at break. The cut/tear resistance of black compounds is significantly enhanced with talc resulting in added toughness and durability in service. The use of talc improves thermal resistance, permeability, and weathering of black vulcanizates. Talc addition to black compounds can result in non-conductive products to avoid corrosion by electrical conductivity. Talc improves the dispersion of carbon black which can reduce the mixing time by 20% without affecting properties.
